Voters Want Leaders Who Will Fight for Safe Drinking Water, Clean Air and Their Communities

Today Safer States launched a new resource to help candidates understand how they can be part of the solution by promoting policies that protect communities from toxic threats and create incentives for safer materials.

One of the biggest threats to safe drinking water across the country are PFAS (per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances) chemicals. PFAS are a class of more than 12,000 chemicals used in nonstick, stain-resistant, and waterproof coatings in products including food packaging, stain-resistant carpeting and furniture, waterproof clothing, and even the foam used to fight fires and firefighting gear.

These chemicals are known to cause serious health issues such as cancer, hormone disruption, and birth defects. PFAS are called “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down in the environment. Communities across the country are drinking water contaminated with PFAS and other harmful chemicals that are making them sick.

Enough is enough! We need solutions that incentivize the use of safer materials, ban toxic chemicals like PFAS, clean up existing pollution, and hold polluters accountable.

Do you want your candidate to prioritize protecting safe drinking water, clean air and the health and wellbeing of your community? Send them this resource and let them know that you are not alone as voters across the political spectrum want candidates who are willing to step up.
